Welcome to Cheshire Neighbours Credit Union. Serving people who live, work or study in either Cheshire East or Cheshire West and Chester for saving and borrowing in an ethical way.

Do something different and volunteer to help your local credit union!

Cheshire Neighbours Credit Union is owned and operated by its members. We are a not for profit organisation which offers :

        Convenient savings facilities

        Affordable loans

Free life insurance and loan protection cover

Members save together, can receive interest on their savings in the form of an annual dividend and can borrow money at favourable rates.

Most importantly, the members savings are absolutely SAFE. Credit Unions are strictly regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and covered by the compensation scheme.

Cheshire Neighbours Credit Union began life as Crewe and Nantwich Credit Union in November 2002. In now have over 2000 active members and membership is increasing by 45 to 50 per month! We then extended our common bond to cover all of Vale Royal and became Cheshire Neighbours Credit Union. With Cheshire splitting into two new authorities in 2009 we took the opportunity to expand the common bond once again to cover the two new authorities areas. We are now truly Cheshire Neighbours.

You may well ask what is a "common bond"? A common bond is what defines membership of a credit union. It might be simply being employed by a particular employer or member of a church who operates their own credit union or in our case either live, work or study in either of the Cheshire authorities.

Credit Unions are financial co-operatives owned and controlled by their members. They offer savings and loans. Being local they are able to be flexible to members needs and ethical in their approach to the local areas they serve.

Members of the credit union pool their savings together and from this pooled savings pot the loans are made. It is important for credit unions to grow in membership as the interest received on the loans in used to pay the dividend on the savings pot and meet our operating costs and overheads.

If you require further information or would like to join us please telephone our Crewe office on 01270 586217 who will be delighted to assist you further. For branch and collection point details please visit our Branch page for details and opening times.

Volunteering

Volunteers are the backbone of the Credit Union. They are members who are involved in all aspects of staffing and management.

Members are elected to the board of directors and to the supervisory and planning committees. It is the volunteer members who make all the decisions and monitor the day to day operation of the credit union. As well as management roles we need volunteers for all other aspects of running the credit union:

We want our volunteers to represent the whole of the membership. You will know which roles you would be most suited for. Our volunteers have a mix of skills and work where they feel most comfortable.

Volunteer may:
· enjoy meeting people face-to-face, or
· prefer to work in the back office on administration
· like working as part of a team
· are comfortable handling money and working with computers, or
· would rather be out promoting and delivering leaflets
